Peter Butler

Peter is an award-winning scenographer and costume designer working across theatre and opera. He trained at Central Saint Martins where he graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) in Performance: Design and Practice. Shortly after graduating he was awarded the 2021 Linbury Prize for Stage Design.

His work in theatre includes Shut Up, I’m Dreaming at the National Theatre; The Last Stand of Mrs Mary Whitehouse at Nottingham Playhouse; Fun Home, Abigail’s Party, A Taste of Honey at the Manchester Royal Exchange; Orfeo Recording in Session at the Schauspielhaus Graz; In Praise of Love at Orange Tree Theatre; Boy Parts at Soho Theatre; The Short Big Show at Somerset House as Co-Director; The Shape of Things at Park Theatre (2023 Stage Debut Award nomination for Best Design); The Last Quiz Night on Earth at New Vic Theatre; Anthem & Horizon at Bush Theatre; The Beat of Our Hearts at Exeter Northcott Theatre; Patient Light for Eastern Angles; Chaos, As You Like It, Attempts on Her Life at Guildhall School of Music & Drama; Mnemonic at the National Theatre (as Associate Designer) and Cabaret: Prologue at the Kit Kat Club, Playhouse Theatre (as Associate Designer).
